About MODA

The Museum of Data Art is a virtual gallery curated by Travis Murphy, exploring the history and future of data visualization. From William Playfair’s first line chart in 1786 to the AI-generated visualizations emerging today, MODA traces the full arc of how humanity has turned numbers into meaning.

MODA is organized into seven wings, each representing a distinct era in the evolution of data visualization. Walk through centuries of innovation — from hand-drawn maps that saved lives to interactive dashboards that fit in your pocket.

This project is a companion to the Infofragments book and the broader work at infografr.com, where data visualization meets storytelling, design, and the art of making information beautiful.
